Blood Orange Blackberry Sangria

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Total Time: 15 minutes

Yield: This makes a lot, approximately 8-10 Servings.

Ingredients

  • 2 Cups sliced Strawberries
  • 3 cups Blackberries
  • 3 Blood Oranges, cut into wedges
  • 1 Lemon, cut into 8 wedges
  • 1 Lime, cut into 8 wedges
  • 2 Cinnamon Sticks
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup Triple Sec
  • 2 cups Sparkling Apple Cider
  • 2 (750ml) bottles of Fruity Red Wine (I used a Pinot Noir and Beaujolais)

Directions

  1. In a large pitcher, toss in all of the strawberries, blackberries, oranges, lemon, lime, and cinnamon sticks.
  2. Pour in the sugar followed by the triple sec, sparkling apple cider, and red wine. Stir a few times until the sugar is mostly dissolved.
  3. Place it in the fridge 4-8 hours. (You can drink it after two hours, but the longer you allow it to sit the more flavorful it is!)

I plan on making this over the Easter weekend! I’m having a hard time finding sparkling apple cider though. I’m assuming sparkling apple juice would work as a substitution? How about just plain club soda?

I havent tried either of these substitutions, but I bet sparkling apple juice would work..I would just cut down on the sugar to start with, since apple juice is a tad bit sweeter. You can always add more sugar after if need be. If you use plain club soda to get the ‘sparkle’ I would still throw in a little bit of apple juice for the flavor and sweetness, and adjust to taste! Let me know how it turns out! 🙂

I should first say, kudos to your beautiful photos! I’m making this today for a birthday party. I was wondering, would the sangria taste nicer if the cider was put in just before serving to preserve the bubbliness or is it merely used as a nice apple flavor?

Oh sorry I didn’t get back to you quicker! I hope you enjoyed it! In case you were still wondering, I added mine a few hours before, so it was mostly just for flavor!

Hello! This recipe sounds absolutely heavenly. I am planning on making it for a Super Bowl party I am hosting. This is probably going to sound like a dumb question; do you put both bottles of wine in the pitcher? Or did you make 2 different batches?

If they both went into one…Where in the world did you find a big enough pitcher!? I have a feeling I am totally overestimating the amount of wine that is in a bottle lol.

hahah no I definitely had some overflow. It’s all one recipe, but once its combined, you can divide it into two separate pitchers. enjoy!!
