I love almond butter! I can’t get enough of it some days! I dip my apples in it, spread it on toast, make breads, (I have a great one I can’t wait to share with you!) cookies, basically anywhere someone has used peanut butter, I have replaced it with almond butter.
Sometimes I have a hard time finding it though. And when I do find it, It seems to be really small jars at a crazy price. My favorite place to buy it so far is Trader Joes, they have a pretty good size jar for a decent price. Problem is, it flies off the shelves there and isn’t always stocked when I go in.
Not to worry though..we can make it at home! And we can spice it up a bit by adding Cinnamon! You should really do this. It’s fantastic. It adds just enough to give a slight flavor! My son was eating it by the spoonful’s! As was I. And the smell when you’re making it, oh its beautiful.
Making it at home is so easy, just takes a little bit of time and patience. I’ve seen people add olive oil, and you can do that to quicken the process, but I chose not too. There are already enough natural oils in almonds to turn them into a smooth, creamy, butter, it just takes a lot of pulsing, scraping down the sides, and pulsing again. It took me about 20 minutes. I used 2 cups whole almonds, next time I’ll use four or five so that I get more and it lasts longer! They literally heat up and steam slightly because you’re pulsing them for so long. It’s fabulous.
I put up these pictures so you know about how far a long in the process you are, or where you should be at. It takes about 20 minutes, give or take, depending on how powerful your food processor is. The only instructions I have is to keep pulsing, stop, scrape down all the sides, and a few times, the bottom of the bowl, and pulse again. It will feel like it is taking forever and then eventually move really quick from pasty, to sand-like, to creamy, cinnamon, almond, goodness! Enjoy!
