Where the Wild Things are First Birthday!

Where the Wild Things Are First Birthday!! Ahhh! I can’t believe my BABY is ONE and we’ve already celebrated his first birthday! Quickest year of my life..so cliche to say, but it truly was. I feel like with each kid, times just goes by faster and faster, its wild! This year has been so much fun, this sweet boy brought something extra to our family that I didn’t even know we needed and I’m so grateful every day for him! for all my babies!

We threw a little last minute birthday party for him, shortly after we got back from our month long vacation in Maine! It was thrown together quickly, but we had all of our closest friends there to celebrate with us, so it was totally perfect!

The theme was ‘Was Where the Wild Things Are’ for our “wild ONE!” It’s also my most favorite children’s book! It was seriously fun to put this together and I loved how sweet he looked all day in his crown! I added the details and linked to what I could on the bottom of this post, however, because I only had five days to plan this thing, most everything was DIY, but if you have the time, browse Etsy, because there are so many cute items you can just purchase!

So without further ado, here is our sweet boys first birthday! (prepare for photo overload!)

Signs & cupcake toppers: I printed myself (let me know if you’re interested and I can upload the pdf to make it available for download)

Burlap ‘ONE’ banner & ‘one wild year’ banner: DIY

‘Wild Things’ Tshirts: DIY (I bought the shirts at old navy, purchased transfer paper, designed them myself on the computer, printed them and ironed them on, super easy!)

I made a modified version of this Carne Asada Chili

Buffalo Chicken Dip

Smash Cake, I followed this recipe, and just tripled it

“Crown” sugar cookies with royal icing: cookie cutter from HERE (also my first time every using royal icing, don’t judge! ;P )

Candy Apples, wrapped in cellophane bags and tied off with burlap string..these were the party favors for everyone 🙂

What font did you use for the banner and did you do use iron transfer on paper as well? I’m planning my twin grand sons’ 1st birthday party and this is the same theme we are going with. Also what did you use for cupcake toppers? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

For the banner, I went into a blank word doc, typed out the word “one”, enlarged it, printed out the letters, and traced them on the burlap, then I just used black paint to paint the numbers on. I don’t remember the font, but it wasn’t anything fancy, just a basic font that I made huge!
For the cupcake toppers I used these two graphics, saved them, input them into a word doc, resized Max, (I fit about 9 a page) and printed them onto card stock, cut them out and taped them to toothpicks! Super easy! MAX: http://bit.ly/2dvEPU8 Wild Thing: http://bit.ly/2cVf2l2
Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hi! I’m planning a Wild Thing party for my little one and love all your decorations. How did you make the wild year sign. Is that on posterboard?? I can’t tell from the photo. Thank you so much in advance!

thank you!! are you referring to the ‘one wild year’ sign above the 12 month photos? If so, I just printed each word out on card stock, cut it into the shape, poked holes, and strung some string through it. For the little crown to dot the ‘i’, I just grabbed a piece of clip-art off google images. It was super simple!

ahh my husband recently cleaned up my computer and lost all the files, Im so bummed out and so sorry about that! But I swear they’re really easy to make, I made them right in WORD and just found the photos right in google images, saved them, and pasted them into a word doc, then printed them all out on cardstock and cut them out. Same thing with the quotes, just typed them up and printed them out. I realize its an extra couple steps for you, Im so sorry!
