Ginger Cucumber Julep

Incredible, refreshing and earthy flavors, including lemon juice, ginger, cucumbers and fresh mint make this Cocktail sublime!

Ginger Cucumber JulepIt’s Friday! woohoo! Cocktail time!! It’s been a long week. I’m in the midst of making my first tiered cake. Ive researched the crap out of it but am still freaking out. All I can see in my future is a collapsed cake,or frosting melting off..the cake gods hate me, and I always have such TERRIBLE luck with cakes. You can tell me its not about luck, and cakes are scientific, blah blah, but you’re wrong. It doesn’t matter what I do, in one way or another something always goes wrong. So today, when I drop the cake or something horrifying, at least I have this cocktail in the wings to pick me back up. (yes, me. not the cake. just leave the cake on the floor.)

Ginger Cucumber JulepWhenever we get a date night, we usually always start off at the same bar. The atmosphere is crazy cool, and the drinks are all like nothing I’ve ever had before. Completely unique, and so, so tasty. Every single one of them. Freshly muddled herbs, infused booze..they know what the heck they’re doing there. I’ll miss that place. Only problem is, because they’re basically the only “cool bar”, ie: only place that makes awesome drinks, around, they like to charge a pretty penny. So we usually have one or two then move on.

Ginger Cucumber JulepI try to always order something different, because their cocktail list is huge. Plus I’ve never tried something I didn’t like! But the last couple times, I ordered the same drink because I just love it so much. It’s called the El Guincho ‘Bird of Prey’. They make it with gin, lemon, and ginger liquor. It’s incredible. SO that is where this Ginger Cucumber Julep initially came from! We bought the ginger liquor, which I had never knew about, and am so in love with, and went home to make it.

Ginger Cucumber JulepIt was JUST as good as Sonny’s. After making it at home a few times, we decided we’d try to jazz it up a bit. Let’s face it, with lemon and ginger, there is sooo much you can do, it’s so refreshing. And this little baby of goodness was born. This combination with the mint and cucumber added, is so absolutely perfect. I made them for my parents last weekend and they were just as head over heels for it as we are. To me, this is the perfect drink. It has no faults, its not sweet, its refreshing, earthy, it has a good bite to it, yet it is so smooth. Do this.

  1. Muddle together the mint and cucumber with a splash of the soda water, until water turns slightly green, and you can really smell the aromas.
  2. Pour the mix into a cocktail shaker.
  3. Add the lemon juice, gin, and ginger liquor. Shake well.
  4. Pour the cocktail over ice 1/2-2/3 the way up the glass, depending how strong you like you're drink!
  5. Top off with soda water. Garnish with mint and cucumber!

Notes

This makes two 8 ounce glasses. You could always use smaller glasses and stretch the cocktail! Its my favorite as of late, enjoy!
