Bacon and Cheddar Pull Apart Bread | Fabtastic Eats We’ve been diy’ing like crazy again. Chairs, benches, nightstands. I mentioned awhile back that we’re totally revamping our master bedroom, like from the ground up, literally…we started with just a mattress on the ground. We’ve come a long way, but we’re still not finished. One of the biggest issues I’m having is finding nightstands. You wouldn’t believe how hard that can be…and let me tell you, I am so sick of leaning down to the ground to pick up my book or water, and having to ninja my way back up (#firstworldproblems)..our bed is really high, it was a requirement.

Bacon and Cheddar Pull Apart Bread | Fabtastic Eats I think we’d be able to find something a lot quicker if a) we had a million bucks, and b) we could actually agree on something, but alas…we’re still nowhere near there. So we’ve devised a plan to do them ourselves, buuuuut I’m a child and I want instant gratification, so if you have a favorite place for these types of things, tell me tell me. I’ve pretty much checked every home goods, marshalls, tj maxx in the state, scoured joss & main and one kings lane daily, nothing I like at target, so maybe I’m being really picky too? that’s probably part of it.

Bacon and Cheddar Pull Apart Bread | Fabtastic Eats I know for a fact I’m completely indecisive, in all things. Currently I’m reupholstering a couple chairs, and I’m sitting here staring at the fabric draped over it…the fabric I just HAD to have, at a whopping $25/yard..and now I’m suddenly not so sure. my brain is annoying at times.

Bacon and Cheddar Pull Apart Bread | Fabtastic Eats But what’s not annoying? carbs! & cheese! & bacon! I think it’s almost impossible to go wrong when those three things are involved. I used aged extra sharp white cheddar, because it’s so tangy and perfect, but feel free to use what you love,  I crisped up the bacon to perfection and chopped it good so it would get allll up in the bread, and it.is.loaded.

This pull-apart bread is soooo soft and slightly chewy on the inside, with a nice golden, crispy top. You will love it!

Bacon and Cheddar Pull Apart Bread

Prep Time: 2 minutes

Cook Time: 35 minutes

Total Time: 2 hours, 35 minutes

Yield: 1-9 inch loaf

Soft and chewy pull apart bread loaded with extra sharp cheddar cheese and crispy bacon!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 Tablespoon honey
  • 4 Tablespoons olive oil
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 3 cups bread flour
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 6 cups cheddar, divided
  • 6 slices bacon, cooked until crispy and roughly chopped.

Directions

  1. Stir together the warm water, yeast and honey. Poof for 5-10 minutes.
  2. In the bowl of a stand mixer, fitted with the dough hook, add the flour, basil, salt, garlic powder, red pepper flakes, and 1 cup of the cheese
  3. Pour in the milk, yeast mixture, and olive oil. Knead for 5-6 minutes on medium speed.
  4. Grease a large bowl with a small amount of olive oil, transfer the dough to the bowl, cover, and set aside to rise until it doubles in size, 1-2 hours.
  5. Punch down the dough, roll it out on a lightly floured surface to a 12" x 22" rectangle.
  6. Sprinkle with all but 1 cup of the cheese, and most of the chopped, crispy bacon, setting a small amount aside.
  7. Cut into three strips lengthwise, then six strips across.
  8. Carefully lift the squares and stack them in four small piles, pressing the cheese and bacon in lightly as you go.
  9. Line a 9x5" bread pan with parchment paper. Holding together the stacks, start laying them sideways in the pan, filling it all the way to the end, so they're firmly in there. Cover and let rise for 30-40 minutes.
  10. Preheat oven to 350°. Top with remaining 1 cup cheese, and leftover bacon. Bake for 35-40 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean. If it begins to darken to much, cover with foil. Enjoy!
